Depression Symptoms

What Are Clinical Depression Symptoms?

Sadness and grief are a normal part of the human experience, with life events such as a family death, relationship issues or stressful work conditions triggering depressive symptoms.

However having the blues or feeling sad is quite different to being diagnosed with a depressive disorder. Clinical depression lasts for more than two weeks and the effects are felt most of the time and on most days.

Symptoms That May Indicate Clinical Depression

  • Depressed mood lasting longer than two weeks
  • Diminished interest or pleasure in favourite activities
  • Loss of appetite or increased appetite
  • Insomnia or sleeping too much
  • Feeling restless or agitated
  • Fatigue or loss of energy
  • Feeling worthless
  • Diminished ability to concentrate
  • Recurrent thoughts of death or suicide

Is Depression – A Simple Serotonin Deficiency?

Although the use of anti-depressant medication to improve serotonin levels is widespread, mood disorders are considered to be more than a simple serotonin deficiency by natural therapists. Like any illness, depression is a signal that the body is out of balance.
