What is Gestational Diabetes?

Gestational Diabetes is one of the most common complications of pregnancy. It is a temporary form of diabetes that develops during pregnancy. The common symptoms may include excessive thirst, excessive urination, fatigue or thrush infections. However symptoms are not always obvious in gestational diabetes.

Gestational Diabetes is strongly linked to consuming too many sugary foods during pregnancy. This can include soft drinks, sweets, chocolate, fruit juices and foods that contain sugar compounds such as high-fructose corn syrup, sucrose and fructose.

Gestational diabetes puts you at risk of further pregnancy complications. Women with gestational diabetes are highly likely to have larger birth weight babies. In addition, you may be more likely to develop Type 2 Diabetes later in life.
