Do You Have Low Thyroid Symptoms?
By Louise O'Connor Naturopath & Wellness Coach
There is no doubt about it. An underactive thyroid has a major impact on your health. Are you gaining weight for no reason? Or finding it impossible to lose weight, even with a healthy diet and exercise? Do you constantly feel tired, lethargic, even depressed and moody? Is your hair falling out excessively? These are common low thyroid symptoms. The medical name is hypothyroidism, the low thyroid condition that results in insufficient thyroid hormone production. The thyroid is often called the master gland of metabolism. It regulates metabolism; the different processes of the body that carry on continuously to keep you functioning. For example; keeping your heart beating, digesting food, re-building bone and growing hair and nails. If your thyroid is under functioning all processes of the body are affected. Your thyroid hormones fire up every body system. Low body temperature and fatigue are therefore two of the most common symptoms used to diagnose an under active thyroid. The severity of symptoms can range from a mild deficiency state, which is not detectable with standard thyroid blood tests (sub clinical hypothyroidism) to severe deficiency states.
