When your thyroid is under active, your body's metabolism slows down. Your whole health suffers as every body system becomes sluggish. As your body slows down you gain weight. Keep in mind that an under active thyroid causes a range of symptoms besides weight gain.
A healthy thyroid is crucial to overall health. An under active thyroid gland, or hypothyroidism is characterised by low production or reduced activity of the thyroid hormones.
