The thyroid is often called the body’s major metabolic regulator. This is the gland that keeps your body humming to ensure it functions in tip-top shape.

When your thyroid is under active, your body's metabolism slows down. Your whole health suffers as every body system becomes sluggish. As your body slows down you gain weight. Keep in mind that an under active thyroid causes a range of symptoms besides weight gain.

Low Thyroid Warning

A healthy thyroid is crucial to overall health. An under active thyroid gland, or hypothyroidism is characterised by low production or reduced activity of the thyroid hormones.

When thyroid activity declines you may feel like your whole body is slowing to a crawl.

Are you worried about your thyroid health? At first the symptoms such as fatigue and weight gain may be barely noticable, or you may simply attribute them to getting older. However as your metabolism continues to slow, it is common to develop more obvious signs and symptoms. Take a few moments to look over my low thyroid symptoms checklist.

  • You have problems losing weight or gain weight easily
  • You constantly feel worn-down, tired or fatigued
  • You have mood swings that range from mild to severe
  • You feel down-in-the-dumps, even depressed
  • Your thyroid gland is enlarged
  • You are easily irritated 
  • Your muscles ache or you have pains in your joints
  • You are experiencing menstrual problems or irregular periods
  • You are sensitive to cold weather or feel cold all the time
  • You have a decreased interest in sex
  • Your skin is dry and pale
  • Your hair is thin and lacks lustre
  • You are experiencing noticeable hair loss
  • Your face, hands and/or feet become swollen or puffy
  • You have low blood pressure and heart palpitations
