Low Thyroid Warning: An Underactive Thyroid Impacts
On Whole Body Health

Are you finding it impossible to lose weight, even with a healthy diet and exercise? Do you constantly feel tired, moody and even depressed some days? Are you experiencing significant hair loss?

These could be the tell-tale signs of a thyroid problem. It’s no secret low thyroid problems are becoming widespread, and many people suffer without even knowing it.

An under active thyroid, or hypothyroidism as it is termed, results in decreased production of vital thyroid hormones by the thyroid gland. This gland produces two key hormones; thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). These thyroid hormones control the body's metabolic rate and many other important functions.

The symptoms of hypothyroidism usually develop slowly over time, often over a number of years. The symptoms are subtle in the early stages. However as the condition worsens the symptoms become more obvious.

The Warning Signs Of a Low Thyroid

Could it be your thyroid? Take a few moments to look over my low thyroid symptom checklist;

  • You have problems losing weight or gain weight easily
  • You constantly feel worn-down, tired or fatigued
  • You have memory problems or feel like you have ‘brain fog’
  • You are easily irritated and you have mood swings that range from mild to severe
  • You feel down-in-the-dumps, even depressed
  • Your thyroid gland is enlarged
  • Your muscles ache or you have pains in your joints
  • You are experiencing menstrual problems or irregular periods
  • You are sensitive to cold weather or feel cold all the time
  • You have a decreased interest in sex
  • Your skin is dry and pale and your hair is thin and lacks lustre
  • You are experiencing noticeable hair loss
  • Your face, hands or feet become swollen and puffy
  • You have low blood pressure and heart palpitations

Women are more likely than men to develop a thyroid disorder. This can include: hypothyroidism, goitre, thyroid nodules and Hashimoto's thyroiditis.

Thyroid damaging foods, nutrient deficiencies, toxic food ingredients, environmental chemicals and stress are all factors that impact on thyroid health.

Fad Diets Don't Work When You Have An Underactive Thyroid!

A healthy thyroid is crucial to keep your metabolism humming. In fact, this gland is the ‘body’s major metabolic regulator’. That’s because thyroid hormones are like a throttle - boosting your body’s ability to burn calories.

An under active thyroid will slow metabolism to a crawl making it next to almost impossible to lose weight. Put simply...slower metabolism equals fewer calories burned and greater weight gain.

Fad diets don’t work when you have an under active thyroid. Restricting calories puts the brakes on thyroid hormone activity. This is the body's natural response to conserve energy. Instead fine-tuning your diet to support thyroid health may be the secret to achieving slow, steady weight loss.

Firstly, avoid all soy foods. This includes soy milk and soy ingredients now found in many packaged foods. Secondly, replace harmful ‘vegetable oils’ with coconut oil. This tropical oil is all the rage – and for good reason. One of the remarkable things about coconut oil is that it can help you lose weight. It’s easy to digest and is an instant source of energy due to its rich source of medium chain triglycerides (MCTs).

Thirdly, avoid artificial sweeteners and other food additives. And finally, choose local or organic produce where possible. Your diet should include a plentiful supply of fresh fruit, vegetables, legumes and lean protein such as fish and low fat red meat.
