Testosterone – The Male Hormone

Low testosterone is directly linked to many of the health problems affecting men. Testosterone keeps you young, it is more than just a sex hormone. There are testosterone receptor sites in cells throughout your body, most notably in the brain and heart.

Testosterone is critical for ongoing protein synthesis which builds muscle and strong bones. Testosterone boosts your metabolic rate to help keep you lean, it also helps control your blood sugar levels, regulates cholesterol production and maintains healthy immune function. Your body also requires testosterone to maintain healthy heart function and brain activity.

What Controls Testosterone Levels?

’Natural-Weight-Loss-Mens-Health
One of the most important factors that affects testosterone levels in men is an enzyme called aromatase, which is found in fatty tissue.

This enzyme is responsible for converting testosterone into estradiol, a potent estrogen. This then alters the healthy ratio of testosterone to estrogen.

Men who have excessive body fat, especially abdominal fat, are likely to have increased estradiol levels caused by higher aromatase activity, resulting in a dramatically increased estrogen to testosterone ratio.
