Fast Food: The Fast Track to Weight Gain
Individuals who frequently eat fast food gain more weight and are more likely to develop insulin resistance than people who don’t, according to a study in The Lancet (2005;365:36–42). Insulin resistance occurs when the body no longer has the ability to efficiently transport glucose (blood sugar), the primary fuel for energy, in to the cells for energy. It leads to Type 2 Diabetes & weight gain and occurs over time in response to a diet that is high in processed foods, especially sugary foods.
For long term health, avoid mass produced junk food. Instead opt for healthy nutritious foods that naturally have a lower glycaemic index (GI) and fewer calories.
